How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has impacted my life in so many ways. I was stuck in a rut after having my 2nd son and had the hardest time losing the extra weight and also the motivation to do so. Boot Camp gave me the motivation to get my body back into shape and also has given me so much more energy to keep up with my two boys. I also love getting together with a group of encouraging and wonderful women and having some "me" time :)
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I have seen a huge change physically, after 9 weeks of Boot Camp I am 14lbs lighter and have lost 4 inches overall, I need to go shopping for some new pants!! I also have so much more endurance and strength, which I knew was inside of me somewhere, it just took Boot Camp to find it!!
How did you find out about Boot Camp?
Marnie worked with my husband Dave at IDT. They were having a good-bye lunch for her and Dave was asking her what she was going to do now, and she talked to him quite a bit about Boot Camp Babes. He got excited thinking that it might be something that I would be interested in.
Outside of Camp what do you do? Do you work, are you a Mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.?
I am a stay at home Mom and that's about it. My 23 month old keeps me pretty busy, so I really am not able to do much. Once he gets a little older I would love to volunteer at my 6yr. old son's school.
Let us know a little bit about your family.
Dave and I have been married for 14 amazing years and we have 2 precious boys, Tyler is 6 and Connor is 23 months. We also have two dogs, a Beagle named Nikki and a Terrier Mix named Lucky
Where did you grow up?
I am an Arizona Native. Born in Phoenix
What is your favorite exercise at camp?
That is a tough one cause I love them all (ok..maybe not frog jumps) If I had to narrow it down it would probably be sprints and our “fun” games :)
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I try to get on the treadmill twice a week and do interval jogging/running and when we take a week off of Boot Camp I do a Jillian Michaels 20 minute shred DVD. I also recently hiked Camelback Mountain with Dave and would love to do more hiking.
Do you have a motto that you live by?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn’t already know.
When I was 21, I spent a summer in Portland, Oregon as a white water raft guide and rock climbing/repelling instructor for Church youth groups.
Thank you Boot Camp Babes for getting me into great shape and for the friendships I have made. I always look forward to my Boot Camp workouts!! :)

Ms. October
Boot Camp allowed me to take the much needed time to focus only on myself. If only for one hour, I had the opportunity to rediscover my own voice and what it meant to be "me" , separate from my role as "wife", "mommy", "friend", etc.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Prior to Boot Camp, the only time I ran was to get in line for half price gift cards at the spa. Now, I am training for my first half marathon. Other than just becoming more of a lean, mean, fighting machine, I have seen a transformation in my thinking from: "I can't do that" to "WHY NOT ME?!"
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I did a search online for a fitness boot camp for women only, and ta-da!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am trained as a professional counselor, and my true love and passion is helping others. Presently, I am a stay-at-home mom.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
My husband and I just celebrated our ninth wedding anniversary, and we stay young trying to keep up with our two wild boys, ages 2 and 5.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri and relocated to Arizona in 2002 to attend graduate school at ASU.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Sprints and absolutely anything other than burpies!
I truly love arm work, and I secretly hope to qualify for the "gun show" along with the likes of Cherith one day. (A girl can dream, can't she?)
Do you work out outside of camp?
In the past, I have been an avid rock climber, but these days, life keeps me too busy.
Do you have a motto that you live by? Three come to mind:
"You are exactly who you were meant to be."
"Everyone has a story that deserves to be told."
"Listening is the greatest gift one can give."
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I was voted "Most Shy" in my high school graduating class.
Anything else you would like to add?
A heartfelt thank you to the owners and trainers of Boot Camp Babes for your genuine investment and dedication to the health and wellness of others. Thank you to all of the wonderful women I have met in camp who are not afraid to come along side and encourage one another to be the very best she can be. Keep up the meaningful work. It matters!

How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp is a very important part of my life. The support from everyone involved in boot camp is incredible, they gave me all the tools and motivation I needed to achieve my goals. Everyone is SO nice and I have made some amazing friends.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I first started Boot Camp Babes a few years ago and then stopped when I was recently pregnant with my second daughter. I started back up when she was a few months old, and Boot Camp helped me lose my baby weight FAST. Besides physically, it has mentally become something I NEED!! If I'm having a busy morning with my kids, or if I'm feeling tense or stressed, I leave Boot Camp feeling like a new woman. It puts me in a better mood and makes me feel so much better about myself. It's my ME time.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
My friend Susan told me about Boot Camp, she got me to do a free trial class and I was hooked!! It's kinda funny because I didn't really know her that well at the time, and now she is one of my closest and best friends.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am very lucky to be a stay at home mom with my two daughters. My husband is a chiropractor in Gilbert, and I pop in his office every so often to help out with the billing a little. I love hanging out with friends and family, photography, shopping, cooking, reality tv, and running.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
My husband Jason and I have been married for almost 7 years, and we have two adorable daughters. Kendall is four years old and has more energy and personality than anyone I know. Keira is 7 months old and is an unbelievably happy and beautiful little baby.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA but have lived ALL over the country! Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, California, and Arizona!
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Push ups! I love arm day, the card game, and the obstacle courses.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I really enjoy running outside, (I HATE treadmills). So on my days off of Boot Camp, I usually run. I have done a lot of different workout routines in the past, but Bootcamp seems to work the best for me. I love that every single day is different.
Do you have a motto that you live by?
Not so much a motto, but just a way of living. I started living my life differently after I lost my dad to cancer a few years ago. It made me realize how important it is to cherish every day and not take any time with the ones you love for granted. Try not to forget the big picture and be thankful for your blessings
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I have worked at just about every job you could think of! Washing hair, scooping ice cream, waiting tables, making teddy bears (Build a Bear!), managing retail stores, accounting.....I've done it all, lol!!
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you to all the wonderful owners, trainers and to all my fellow Boot Camp Babes!!
MRS. MARCH
Sarah Nash
An ultra-positive, determined, motivating Babe
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has affected my life in so many positive ways! First of all since I am fairly new to the area, it has allowed me to meet women that I otherwise may not have had the opportunity to meet. I have some wonderful friendships that have come out of camp, and I feel as if every week I'm gaining a new friend. I love that I have something that is my own in this busy life. My family appreciates it too, because it makes me happy! I love exercising in a group setting, it is motivating for me to see others work so hard, and I like to try and motivate them as well! My love of exercise has been re-energized, and I am reaching my weight loss goals!
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Physically I have lost inches and pounds. I am stronger and my endurance has increased quite a bit, but I think the emotional changes are the biggest part for me. I am more confident and I KNOW I can do anything I set my mind to. It's a wonderful thing to feel so powerful!
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
Jamie Milkla is an old friend of mine, and when I knew there was a possibility of moving here, I reached out to her. When we were visiting she was telling me all about this wonderful boot camp work out she was doing. In fact, she told me it had helped her reach her goals, and she loved it so much she was now an instructor! I knew I had to check it out!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am a stay at home mom... well 85% of the time. My husband is self employed and sometimes I "work " for him. I also volunteer in my youngest daughter's classroom. I love to sing, dance, read and garden; although I haven't figured out how do this in the desert yet. Wine is another passion of mine, drinking and collecting!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I have been married to my husband Troy for 14 years. We have two beautiful daughters, Samantha is 16 and Faith is 9.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in a small town called Marysville, about an hour north of Seattle, Washington.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
I think my favorite exercise would be X jumps. They're fun and I can do them well, so of course I like them if I'm good at them! :)
Do you have a motto that you live by?
I like to live life to the fullest! Take advantage of every opportunity! You never know what tomorrow may bring!
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I am an open book. What you see is what you get. So, all the women who have met me, probably know all there is to know... I talk A LOT! :)

Meet Miss February,
HALLEY FISHER
Our kick butt brand new mom
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I am stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally thanks to boot camp. I am a much happier and confident mom. I love the way I feel after class and that feeling carries over into my daily life.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
A few years ago a friend tried camp out and I then joined. Unfortunately I stopped going after a few months and have recently joined again. It is the ONLY program that I’ve done that actually yields results. I am addicted.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I currently stay home to take care of my son. I am working in the boot camp childcare a few classes a week. I love cooking, reading, jogging, and wine!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I have the cutest son ever - Alex! He is almost 7 months old and an absolute joy. His father and I have been together 3 years and I am so blessed to have them in my life. We also have one huge Rhodesian Ridgeback named Harley.
Where did you grow up?
I lived in Iowa most of my life until I moved to AZ 8 years ago. I had to escape the long, cold, depressing winters.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I try to jog for an hour 3-5 days a week with my dog. He is so energetic if I don’t run him he gets crazy!! In the summer I like to swim laps in my pool. I am currently training for my first ½ marathon!
Do you have a motto that you live by?
I try to live in the moment. I try not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. I just focus on being happy now!
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I love the ocean – the smell and sound. My dream is to someday have a house on the beach.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you Thank you to Andrea, Heather, Jamie, Apryl and fellow babes. You are all amazing women!
Mrs. January
Penny Luse
Our inspiring Babe
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has been a highly motivating and positive experience for me. Growing up playing softball was my life. The best part of playing ball was the team atmosphere... supporting each other, working together, reaching goals together. I never felt alone, I always had my girls. Boot Camp brought all of that back to me. The fun and support from all the Babes is just amazing. I love Boot Camp!
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
The changes I have experienced have affected me both physically and emotionally. I originally started Boot Camp in the summer of 2009 but due to a very old injury, I had to stop in December. I was extremely sad because I was seeing and feeling the positive changes from Boot Camp. The injury, a pinched nerve in my right elbow was corrected in May 2010 with surgery. I began Boot Camp again in August 2011 but this time as a Basic Babe and modifying the exercises as we went. Jamie is an amazing trainer and just really put me at ease and helped me through a nervous time. She focuses on form and is very patient. Emotionally I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to use my arm the way I had in the past but the exercise has helped me so much. Thank you Boot Camp!
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I was having a hard time finding the right exercise program. I hate working out alone in the gyms or doing anything on my own. I decided that I really needed the accountability and motivational factors to get me going. Just as our "not-so-used" gym closed, my friend Liz had completed a few sessions of Boot Camp and just loved it, not to mention looked fantastic. A few more good friends who were having success, Steph and Monica were also Babes and both Heather and Michelle started working for Andrea. I knew it was my turn to get on board!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am a stay at home Mom. My hobbies used to be photography and graphic design. For a few years I had a business creating photo greeting cards, which impacted my right arm severely. 2011 will be the year of new hobbies, just not sure what they'll be yet!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I am married to Paul and 2011 it will be 16 years! He is a big supporter of me and for me attending Boot Camp. Thanks Hub! We have two amazing children. Our daughter Lincoln is 10 and our son Carson is 8. They are doing great in school and are very involved with Tae Kwon Do. They'll be testing for their 2nd degree Black Belts this February!
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Monongahela, PA but moved to Phoenix when I was 2. I grew up in North Phoenix. When I met Paul, he lived in the Chandler area and now I'm proud to say it's my home too.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
That's a tough one, Burpies or Ninjas... not!!! I really dig the assessments. They conduct a physical challenge at the beginning and end of each session. My competitive side really comes out and I just have to beat my first outcome. I like the "sports themed" workouts and the group activities but watching Rena skip is the best!
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I did, before the holidays! Shhh... don't tell anyone! My Girls, Amy and Rena and I trained for and completed our first ever 1/2 Marathon walk. It was amazing and I can't wait to do the next one. I also take Thai Boxing classes at my kid's karate studio every Saturday morning with my family or a few during the week. It's so much fun and yes we all have boxing gloves and shin guards!
Do you have a motto that you live by?
One day at a time.
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
Something others may not know is that I suffer from anxiety and sometimes it can be intense. I joined Boot Camp for the physical aspect but it's also helped me with the anxiety as well. Some times getting out of the house can be so hard, but I have to leave the house to go to Boot Camp! Being social also helps me a great deal and the support and kindness from all the Babes has been priceless. I always leave Camp much happier than when I arrive.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you Andrea for creating the perfect work out for me. Thanks to all the trainers: Andrea, Jamie, Michelle, Cherith, Christy and Apryl. You are all amazing at what you do and I love it! Heather... thank you for your positive attitude and patience too.

Mrs. December
Marnie Wong
Our Always Happy, motivating Babe
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Wow - this is a tough one to answer in such a small space! In the most overly simplified way - Boot Camp brought into my life some of the most amazing people I've ever met and gave me the tools and the support I needed to achieve my own health and fitness goals. The positive vibe and the desire to continually create and reach new goals is contagious and the diversity of both the people and the workouts always keeps it interesting :) Plain and simple - Boot Camp has made me better!
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I started Boot Camp 3 months after I had my son. Since then I've lost over 20 pounds, am stronger and faster than I've ever been in my life, and have taken up running half marathons (something I never thought I'd do). I've found people as passionate about health and fitness as I am and trainers that don't just push you physically, but get to know you and your goals and really help you to achieve them! Emotionally, I can't even put into words the value of the friendships I've made. Andrea has created more than just a fitness program, it's a full social network!
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I tried some of the other "new mom" workout groups out there, but I just didn't find them effective or interesting. Searching online I noticed that Boot Camp Babes had full child care and that is was right there so I could keep an eye, but still get a real work out. Almost 2 years later and I'm still totally addicted. Thank you Google :)
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I love playing and watching almost all sports, but my favorites are Ultimate Frisbee and snowboarding (and recently, running). I guess I'd consider myself a foodie who appreciates good food and wine and loves experimenting with out of the box stuff and I love, love, love to travel. Outside of camp I work as an electrical engineer designing circuits for mobile devices like laptops and cell phones. On Nov 12, I walked 60 miles in the 3-day for the Cure with fellow Boot Camp Babes to support the fight against breast cancer!!!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I have been married for 8 years and I have one son, Kace, who is almost 2 years old. He is by far the best thing that has ever happened in my life and although I may be biased - I think he is probably the smartest and cutest kid of all time (just sayin') :) I also have a super dog that I rescued from the pound, Indie - my other baby!
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Calgary, Canada eh! I moved down to AZ to attend ASU in 1999 and the weather kept me here. Don't get me wrong, I miss the mountains and my family, but 8 months of winter - too much!! I'll take 4 months of "dry heat" any day :)
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Sprints, running the hill, running the lake, any games with running...do you see a pattern?
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I play Ultimate Frisbee. I canceled my gym membership because compared to Boot Camp I just found it really boring to be at the gym all by myself. I used to go to yoga often and my next goal is to get back to that!
Do you have a motto that you live by?
"The conscious brain can only hold one thought at a time. Choose a positive thought". - Lululemon Manefesto
"A laugh can be a very powerful thing. Why, sometimes in life, it's the only weapon we have." - Roger Rabbit
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I sleepwalk...regularly...like every night! I also prefer vanilla ice cream to any other flavor and apparently trouble is not my middle name...but my first one :)
Anything else you would like to add?
I just want to say thank you to all of the amazing trainers, and to my fellow babes. It is the accumulation of all of this awesomeness that makes Boot Camp Babes what it is :D

Miss November
MEET TONIA BRUNO
Our "Freakishly Strong Babe"

How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has provided me with another safe haven besides my restaurant, home and the ball field. It is a "peaceful" yet fulfilling experience ever time I got to class. I not only get to exercise away frustrations and stress, but also get to laugh, share and enjoy the company of exceptional women and instructors.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I can confidently say I am faster running around the bases and I can jump higher. Emotionally, I am less stressed after bootcamp, well at least until I wake up the next day.
I find out about Boot Camp through Michelle German, an instructor. I met Michelle on the softball field and remember her ranting and raving about camp. I was hooked before even coming to a class.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
Outside of Camp, I work. Some might say I work too much, but I really do love my restaurant and it really is my second home. My restaurant is also my means to aide my surrounding community, schools, churches, and organizations. In addition to cooking chicken, I also enjoy playing softball and spending time at home with my 2 beautiful puppies, Mia and Madison.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I am not involved with anyone yet; however, you could say I am married to my restaurant. Since I have finally settled down for good in Queen Creek, I would love to finally meet a good man and hopefully, start a family.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Jarrettsville, MD. It is a little town approximately 35 minutes NE of Baltimore.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
My favorite exercise at camp would have to be any strength exercises. As Christy says, "I'm freakishly strong."
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I play softball atleast 2 times a week outside of camp. When you start playing more than 2 games of ball a day it does start to feel like working out.
Do you have a motto that you live by?
"The choices we make dictate the life we lead."
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I actually studied to be a commercial artist. I have an undergraduate degree in fine arts and a master's degree in publications design. It is by God's hand that I ended up selling chicken. :)

Meet Melissa Hernandez
An addicted evening camp Babe
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc. I work for Penske Automotive/Mercedes Benz of Chandler 5 to 6 days a week. I love to run and do it most mornings and I also read if I have any free time.
Do you have any children? I have two sons Bailey 14 and Noah 13
Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Hemet, California
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-) I cant say that I have one specific favorite exercise, but I love Tuesdays..Leg day. That is definitely my problem area and I am always so sore after that class so I know I am getting results!!
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do? Yes, I run or walk every morning. It has become such a habit I cant start my day any other way.
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know. I collect and make collectible teddybears.

Meet Mrs. September, Cherith Mock
An Athletic Babe with a great work ethic
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
I've had the opportunity to meet some amazing women and learn more about the field that I eventually would love to work in.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I've always been a pretty active person, but physically, I'm in the best shape of my life! I look forward to getting my butt kicked, to see how far I can push myself...to see how strong I know I can be.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I've never been a gym kind of girl. But after I had both of my kids, it was getting harder and harder for me to work out at home. I didn't want to join a gym, but I was getting desperate. Then one day, my beautiful friend, Tara Dunn, called me and told me that she just had joined this new camp, and that I should come and try it out. I was addicted after my first class! Not only are the trainers and the classes fantastic, but the childcare is unmatched. My kids look forward to coming to Boot Camp...their just as dissappointed as me when we have to miss a class.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
Right now I'm in the process of studying for my American Council of Exercise certificate in Personal Training. I hope to test and have my certificate by the end of the year. I'm also a huge advocate for donating life. After one of my best friends was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, she had to undergo a bone marrow transplant. If you have a chance to save someones life, whether by donating blood or bone marrow, do it!! It's the biggest gift you can ever give someone!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I started dating my husband, Justin, when I was 19, we've been together for a little over 9 years, married for a little over 4 years. He is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I'm lucky to have him in my life. We have 2 children...our beautiful little girl, Maddox,3...and our little stud, Mason,1.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Burpies!!! Ha Ha...not really ;-) I would have to say that I really enjoy any arm related exercise...bicep curls, tricep kickbacks. Since starting Boot Camp, there is definition in my arms that I've never seen before.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
On my days "off" from camp, I run on my treadmill at home while my kids are napping. I'm not always able to get a good run in, due to the kiddos waking up, but I atleast try to run 3 to 4 miles. My goal is to eventually run in a half and full marathon. But I do qualify running after my children all day as exercise. ;-)
Do you have a motto that you live by?
"Everything happens for a reason." Whether or not we know or understand the reason at the time, I believe everything has a purpose.
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
Something that most people wouldn't know about me is that I bought my first business at the age of 23. I was working at a salon for 5 years, and eventually had the opportunity to buy and take over from the previous owner. A little over a year later I was forced to sell, due to my husband and I making the big move to Arizona. It was a great learning experience for me, I learned a lot about myself. But I wouldn't trade the chance to move to Arizona for anything.

Mrs. August

Mrs. July
Meet Jennifer Hamblin
An always smiling, evening camp Babe
I first heard about boot camp at my sister's baby
shower. People were talking about
different fitness programs and I was interested, because I needed something new
that wasn't a gym and something that had quality child care. I looked at the website and it sounded
exactly what I was looking for. I signed
up for my first trial class and I remember someone telling me, as we waited for
class to start, that I'd love boot camp and be addicted. I was excited because that's exactly what I
need, a fitness program I couldn’t get enough of. Then half way through the class I thought
there's no way I'd be addicted to anything this crazy. I thought I was going to puke and I thought
there was no way I was coming back let alone be addicted. By the time I got home I felt good and the rest of the day I had energy to keep
up with my kids and my mood was better
than usual, so I decided to give it a try and signed up for my first
session. The workouts killed me but I
loved the energy and the pride of accomplishing another class. My sister starting coming with me and then I
added another day to my week and now eight months later I go crazy if I miss a
class. I plan everything around boot
camp. I have more energy, I'm the
strongest I've been in years!
Outside of camp I work part-time as a Clinical Social Worker at Cardon Children's Medical Center in the NICU. I love my job and the team I work with and I'm lucky to have a job share position that allows me to only work two days a week so I can spend the rest of the week with my girls. Rowan is my oldest and she's six and Chyler is my youngest and she's two. My husband and I have been together 18 years. We met in high school in Bend, Oregon where be both grew up. We dated through college and married in 1997. We moved from Oregon to Phoenix right after our honeymoon so I could go to grad school at ASU.
My favorite exercise at camp is probably something core related, because it's oddly enough one of my stronger areas. I also love the cool down at night, laying in the grass looking up at the stars and feeling like I've done something great for myself. I also like the lake run because it's something that seemed so long in the beginning and now I enjoy it.
I do workout (some) outside of camp. Usually Beachbody videos, yoga and sometimes running. I recently tried a bar method class while on vacation in San Diego and that was fun.
I don't really have a motto that I live by, I have just been
trying to focus on creating balance with family, church, friends, exercise,
and work. Thank you Boot Camp Babes for
helping me reach and create new goals and for being part of the balance of my
life. I love it and I AM addicted. :)

Introducing Mrs. June:
Kris Newman
(far left)
A committed,
5:15am Babe
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally? A few months ago, I was able to get rid of my maternity and fat clothes!
How has Boot Camp impacted your life? Three times a week, I wake up at an ungodly hour, drag myself out the door and workout for a full hour and it is the best feeling in the world!
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes? Boot Camp babes sponsored the Mommy meet up group that I am a member.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, volunteer, hobbies etc. I work full time, hang out with my almost 2 year old and other moms and occasionally hang out with my husband.
How long have you been married and how many children do you have? I've been married 6 years this August and we have a beautiful almost 2 year old boy.
Where did you grow up? My dad's job required us to move frequently. I was born in Hawaii, but have lived in North Carolina, Japan, Virginia and New Jersey (not in that order).
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-) Ask me the opposite... which is my least favorite....anything that has to do with an animal. (for all of you out there that aren't at camp yet, she is referring to bear crawls, crab walks, sidewinders, inchworms and frog jumps. Secretly, I think she really likes them! LOL)
Do you workout outside of camp? If so, what do you do? Yes, I run, bike and swim.
Do you have a motto that you live by? I have 2: Live, Laugh, Love and Assume positive intent.
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know. All jokes aside, my core being is very sensitive

How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has had such a POSITIVE affect on my life I don't know where to begin!! I think the most important affect is that I am finally happy with my physical appearance. Overall, I am a happier person, because I feel good about myself! I have met so many new friends as well. Friends that I would not have met if I did not participate in boot camp.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Physically, I have lost close to 30# and over 20 inches! I enjoy exercise more and I have taken up running!! Emotionally, I am happier and feel good about how I look.
Last year, I was the PTO President at my daughter's school. Andrea sent me an email wanting to advertise her camp. We emailed back and forth several times and I found her to be very true to what she wanted to do for us moms/women. I signed up January '09 and have been with her since!
I am mom to Anna and wife to Kevin. I am very involved in Anna's school, sometimes too involved!! I am also very active in my parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe, as a religious ed teacher and youth mentor. I am a RN,working as a Clinical Case Manager, at Banner Heart Hospital. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and my nursing background is in cardiac and home health nursing. Currently, I work weekends only so that I can go to boot camp 3x/week!!
Kevin and I have been married almost 22 years! Kevin is an engineer at Boeing, Mesa. Anna 11, is our only child, but I do share my sister's five girls! Oh....I do have five cats..Nicholas, Mollie, Jasper, Isabella and Sissie. My husband is very tolerant of my cat addiction!
I am a New Eng-lander growing up in Lee, Massachusetts. No Boston accent because I am from Western Massachusetts! We came to AZ when my husband was offered the job of a lifetime at Boeing.
Running the lake and hill. I love being at Veteran's Oasis Park!!!
Yes, I go to Fitness Works and enjoy doing Body Pump and Body Jam.
"Nothing difficult is every easy." "At every moment, do what love requires."
We became a forever family through adoption!!! We were Anna's foster parents first. We had 48 hour notice that we were getting a 15mo old little girl! I was at work when I got the call...I went to my boss and said, "tomorrow will be my last day of work, I'm getting my baby!!" Anna became ours a week after her 3rd birthday!
Also, and this is very sad...despite being from Massachusetts, I have only been to Boston a few times!
I always tell Andrea that she has changed my life. That is true, but in reality, you (all the Babes) have all played such an important role in my transformation! THANK YOU!!!!
MRS. APRIL

How has Boot Camp impacted your life? At 45, I feel stronger and in better health than I was ten years ago, thanks to Boot Camp. I never consistently stuck to any exercise regime for long and I never worked out with a group before. The camaraderie at Boot Camp is motivation for me. I have met some great friends, incredible women at Boot Camp!
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally? I have never done any type of strength training in my life so that's been an amazing transformation! My fitness goals were more about developing endurance and toning rather than losing weight but I think in the process of building that muscle, I feel leaner. I feel increased energy and endurance in everything I do. Your physical health is connected to your mental health so because I feel great about my body, I am happier! ;-) The trainers are knowledgeable and so caring! I learn something new every week from them!
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes? A friend from my neighborhood told me about it - that was in February of 09 and I have been hooked ever since!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom,
volunteer, hobbies etc. I teach for both University of Phoenix and Ashford University. I also mentor new UOP facilitators. Fun job that I can do from home because I mostly teach online. The flexibility of my schedule allows me to help out in my kids' classes and go on field trips with them! I am also excited to be involved with Susan Komen 3 Day For The Cure. I will be doing the 60 mile walk with my Boot Camp Babe teammates in November.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long? My husband, Blas, and I have been married for 21 years on April Fools Day. We share a passion for music, travel, wine, and being outdoors! I am fortunate to have a husband who believes in everything I do and makes me want to be better at all I do. We have two beautiful children; Antonio is 12 and Isabella is 8. They are awesome kids who share their dad's musical talents! I learn more from them than all my years of schooling combined!
Where did you grow up? I moved to AZ from NY when I was 12. I lived in Arizona for many years then we relocated to the Bay Area and lived there for the last 10 years. Just relocated back to AZ about a year and a half ago. It was a challenge for me to move back to AZ from a home and friends I loved in the Bay Area but I can honestly say, Boot Camp has been one of the silver linings in the move for me!

INTRODUCING:
CAROL FAWSON
A NEWFOUND RUNNER
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
Boot Camp has changed (for the better) how I feel about myself and added a great dimension of hope to my life.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
For the past few years I have been saying I wanted to be “Fit by 40”. Having baby four kind of put that on hold a little, plus I had procrastinated enough that Boot Camp was really in order to make any changes by 40 (I gave myself two months LOL). But remarkably, due to the cleverness of the program (thanks, Andrea!) and the tenacity of the trainers, much happened for me in those first few months. I went from hating exercise to being very excited and anxious to go exercise at Boot Camp.
I truly feel strong. I am amazed at how great it feels! I love looking ahead to the future and what it holds for me physically and emotionally.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
While attending a school fair I saw a Boot Camp Babes booth and walked right over to it. The three Boot Camp Babes (including Heather and Carmen) at the booth were so kind to me. I looked at “before and after” pictures and asked questions. I remember one question I asked was “Do I have to be able to do choreography?” and they all said emphatically, “No!” and laughed. I felt that they were very sincere in their camaraderie with each other and with me and I could imagine myself getting much needed support from them in my exercise. I signed up that afternoon.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am a stay-at-home mom and also a part-time curriculum editor and consultant. My greatest work effort has been with an international non-profit organization called iKeepSafe.org. We teach internet safety and ethics to children and parents. My other client this year was the PBS show Signing Time.
I work in the nursery at church. My hobbies are gardening, knitting, reading, and crafting. Sadly, I also bake!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved
with someone special, how long?
I feel fortunate to have a happy, healthy family consisting of my husband Paul and our four children: Liesl (9), Graham (8), Miles (6), and Julia (almost 2). We feel so much love for each other and we love seeing the friendships blossom between our children and work to create happy memories for them. We are also vitally aware of the thought that “the sign of successful parenting is not how the child turns out but how the parents turn out.” Attending Boot Camp is part of my parenting and an important part of making me the healthiest person I can be.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up here in the Valley, in the north section of
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
My favorite exercise is the warm up before circuits and any workout for abs.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
Um, I do not work out outside of camp! Sorry to admit that, but for the first few months after workouts I was so exhausted I could hardly do anything!
I will say that Andrea encouraged me to do the
Do you have a motto that you live by?
One of my favorite sayings is “Work is more fun than fun.” I am trying to teach my kids to consider working a privilege. I love that the kids are seeing me enjoy exercise now. Boot Camp is where one of my sons proudly says I am “getting the fat off.”
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't
already know.
Something that would probably never come up at workouts is that I am an accomplished musician on the piano and violin. I also sing and play the organ.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you to my trainers Andrea, Michelle, and Nicole, Heather and all Boot Camp Babes for your help and support!

Mrs. February
A hardworking Babe
How has Boot Camp Babes impacted your life?
For the first time in my life I am more focused on getting in shape rather than simply trying to shed pounds. I am inspired by the number of women in boot camp that are incredibly fit.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Physically, I have lost inches and I can see my body change. Emotionally, I am a lot happier. Instead of worrying merely about how much weight I have to lose I am now focusing on leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I found out about Boot Camp Babes through my friend Breanna Bullock. She is in incredible shape and has encouraged me to not give up. I have never been an athlete. I have never pushed myself as hard as I have at Boot Camp.
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am currently a stay-at-home mom to our 8-month-old son. I used to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital working on clinical trials for Multiple Sclerosis patients. I loved my job and I hope to go back when our son starts school. Otherwise, I love to cook… and of course to eat J. I also love to read, but little time to do so.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I have been married for almost seven years. My husband and I moved to Arizona right after we got married. We have a baby boy, Zev, who is 8 months old. We are head over heels about him. He has brought untold joy into our lives.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Orange County, California.
What is your favorite exercise at camp?
;-) Ha…well I can tell you it’s not running with 5 pound weights in my hands! I guess my favorite exercise is doing push-ups. I couldn’t even do one when I started boot camp!
Do you have a motto that you live by?
"Do unto others what you would have done to you."
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I have a twin sister to whom I am older by 4 minutes.
Anything else you would like to add?
Christy is an awesome instructor. She kicks my butt in every class!

Mrs. January

Meet Jo Shurman
Our "new" athlete
How has Boot Camp impacted your life?
I have never considered myself athletic, or an exerciser. I hated sweating (funny since I live in Arizona)! Since joining Boot Camp, I don't consider any day a good day unless I have had a sweaty work out. Though I knew that I should exercise, it was always last on my priority list and never happened. Now, I exercise 4-5 days of week for an hour each day, two of them at Boot Camp. Exercise is a top priority for me.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Besides losing weight, which was my motivation to join, I am stronger. One of the best compliments that I received was that I looked skinny and STRONG. Physically, my body is changing. Not only can I fit in my "skinny" jeans, they are a bit loose! I am proud of my level of endurance and how hard I can push myself. Now I set exercise goals for myself to continue growing. For example, right now I am trying to run a 6.5 mile route in under an hour. I can do it in 1 hour and 20 minutes right now. I also love that I don't have "flag arms." The areas above my elbow are much more defined and don't swing in the breeze.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
My friend, Beth, had joined. She was telling me all about it and since I wanted to lose 10 pounds by my birthday, I went as her guest. Going to the first camp, I was scared. I was terrified of not being able to do the exercises and of being last in everything--like the nerd in high school gym class. After camp, I was so proud of myself. I completed all the activities and I didn't feel so incredibly discrepant from the other babes. I did more than I ever believed that I could. That level of excitement about camp and my abilities has never diminished. I still can't wait to go to Boot Camp!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
So proud to say, that I am a teacher. Currently, I am working at the district level helping other teachers. Outside of my job, I have two incredible kids. Cameron, 9, plays soccer and piano. He is also a Bear Scout, and since I am the Den Leader, that takes up a lot of my free time. My daughter, Paige, is 5. She plays soccer and is in gymnastics. Reading, scrapbooking and crossword puzzles are activities that I do for me. On the weekends and during school breaks, the kids will ride their bikes with me while I run. I'm proud that I am teaching my kids the importance of incorporating exercise in their life.
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
My husband, Brian, and I have been married for almost 18 years. Incredibly, he is my high school sweetheart. We are two halves of a whole. I can't imagine my life without him.
Where did you grow up?
Though I was born in Indiana, my elementary years were spent in Wyoming. I returned to Indiana for high school.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-) Still can't say that I love burpees :-). What I do love though, is the free weight exercises. Core is also one of my favorites because it means camp is almost over and I can stare at the stars while I feel the burn.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
I run 2-3 other days per week for an hour each time. When I get bored with just running, I will stop at the park and do sprints or fast feet like we do at camp or even suicides. I'm sure I look like quite the dork all by myself, but I feel good!
Do you have a motto that you live by?
As Christopher Robin said to Pooh, "Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
My brother, who is 10 years younger than me, was always the athletic one in my family. He could do any sport and do it well. I was always the reader. Just recently, he came to visit me and went running with me. He could not keep up and needed to have several breaks for a one mile run. I was barely winded. Totally a moment that made me smile!
Mrs. December

Meet Heather Fraley:
A fellow Grove Babe
How has Boot Camp Babes impacted your life?
I was never an athlete growing up but always wanted to be. I now, at age 32, am starting to consider myself athletic. I love telling my kids and hubby about what I did that day at camp. I still have goals I want to accomplish, but I love how strong and confident I feel. I have worked out on and off over the years, but was never committed to it. With Boot Camp I am sad if I have to miss and can’t wait to the next class!
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
Physically, I have always hated my arms and would NEVER wear sleeveless tops. Just recently I started to notice that my arms aren’t as flabby as they use to be. Granted, they aren’t where I want them :), but I have dared to put on some tanks lately!
I think the biggest changes in my life have occurred emotionally, however. I struggle with anxiety disorder and since attending Camp I have improved significantly. I have a place to work out my “issues”
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
My son and one of the trainer’s daughter played on the same Little League team and she was telling me about Boot Camp. I looked it up online and decided to give it a try.
I was pretty well hooked after the first class!
Outside of Camp, what do you do? Do you work, are you a mom, volunteer, hobbies etc.
I am a stay-at-home mom and wife. I do a little work for our family business. I love photography, reading and spending time with family and friends. I also love attending my kids sports events...and really any sporting events.
Tell us about your family
I have been married to, Michael, for just over 11 years. He, along with our three children, Madison (almost 9), Micah (7) and Makay (18 months), are the greatest joys of my life!
Where did you grow up?
My dad was in the Air Force, so I grew up all over. I have lived in AZ longer than I have anywhere (10 years), so I consider this home. I absolutely love it here!
What is your favorite exercise at camp?
I have discovered a love for sprints and laps around the Grove's building :), which is funny to me because I couldn’t have imagined myself enjoying running 6 months ago.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
Other than chasing kids, no not really. :)
Do you have a motto that you live by?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5.
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
Well, I don’t know that this is very fun, but....I graduated from a small college in Searcy, Arkansas where I majored in Social Science and certified to teach. After two years of teaching Jr. High I realized I was not born to teach other people’s children. I took early retirement and had my own kiddos, however, I still have a passion for History and Politics.

Betina Powers
an interview with a Dedicated babe
Has Boot Camp Babes impacted your life?
Boot Camp has been life-changing for me. It has opened my eyes to how fun working out can be. I actually get excited to go and see if I can do better than the day before. And I love, love, love all the girls! Everyone is so supportive and motivating and we all care about each other.
What changes have you seen in yourself, physically and/or emotionally?
I just never could seem to lose all the baby weight after each pregnancy and seemed to just pile on more and more. I felt so "yucky" for lack of a better word and so discouraged. I am finally starting to see muscles that have been buried for a long time! I definitely feel stronger and younger (though I may not look it!) and more confident. I'm doing things in boot camp that I haven't been able to do since high school, and THAT.FEELS.AWESOME!! I am proud (and a little embarrassed) to say that I have lost a total of 34lbs and about 20 inches.
How did you find out about Boot Camp Babes?
I read this editorial/review in The Gilbert Republic written by Brooke Romney, who had attended a trial class. I immediately went to the website and was so intrigued, but very nervous. I emailed Andrea who instantly set my mind at ease and encouraged me to give it a try - THANK YOU, ANDREA!
Outside of Camp, what is your life like?
I stay at home with my kids and two dogs. I teach Joy School on a rotation with three other moms in my neighborhood. I am the Committee Chair for the Cub Scout Charter for our church (love those boys!) I partner with my sister in our small business, "LaDy LaDuke" - specializing in fashionable nursing covers. I love to play with my kids - they remind me of what's important. I love ALL sports: watching and playing. I love to swim and I used to teach swim lessons to kids of all ages. Someday, I will again when my kids are older!
If you have any children how many and if you are married or involved with someone special, how long?
I am married to my best friend, Rob, for 10.5 years. He is silly and a goofball, and makes me laugh every day. I have three kids: Gage (5), Bella (2.5), and Paisley (18mos).
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Arizona. I grew up in Phoenix and moved to the east valley after high school. Call me crazy, but my heart belongs in Arizona.
What is your favorite exercise at camp? ;-)
Hmmm....that's a tough one. I really love all the weight exercises and I love sprints, but only the first two! :) I also love all the games, like the water balloon fights, and capture the flag. That's when I have the most fun and feel like I'm not even exercising.
Do you work out outside of camp? If so, what do you do?
On Tuesday and Thursday I go to the park across the street from my house at 5:30am along with some of the neighborhood moms and we do cardio. (have to give Betina props here.. woo hoo!!!)
Tell us something fun and/or insightful about you that others wouldn't already know.
I have a photographic memory that I inherited from my Dad, which proved very helpful in school. It's not as good as it used to be....having kids has zapped almost all my brain cells, I think! I come from a large family - there are seven siblings and we all have kids around the same ages. We have a blast at family get-togethers, but have invested in good earplugs! :) I like to blast my ipod and dance with my kids in the kitchen, even though I'm a horrible dancer.
Do you have a motto that you live by?
That's a hard one too, I have several favorites. The ones that come to mind right now are, "Do Your Best", and "Treasure Every Moment."
Thanks Betina... your infectious smile and positive attitude is felt by all of us! Keep up the great work! :) Andrea

Meet Amy Funicello:
A Fellow Espee Park Babe
We are pleased to introduce Amy, our October Babe of the Month! Amy is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and a current CPA for Wallace, Plese & Dreher. She is a mom to two beautiful sons, Jack (8) and Sam (3) and wife to her hubby Matt of 11 years. She also serves as a volunteer and board member for several non-profit foundations. In her spare time (yeah right! J) Amy likes to read, cook and travel. Amy always “tries to remember that everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t understand it!”
After reading an article in AZ Central, Amy was hooked! She enrolled in Boot Camp Babes and began the next evening. Her favorite exercise at camp? Wall squats... “Yep, really!” she exclaims. Outside of camp, Amy loves to swim (she swam competitively until her freshman year in college), loves to downhill ski (which she and the family are able to do once a year since moving to Arizona from Colorado) and she enjoys doing triathlons. She says hula dancing is also an awesome workout!
Amy was born and raised in Hawaii, mostly on the big island in Hilo. While growing up, her family was a HUGE fan of college football in the states! Her mom is originally from Oklahoma and her dad from Texas, so she grew up on the Big 12 (back then the Big 8). Later in life when she moved to Colorado she became an even bigger Denver Broncos fan and to this day enjoys football. Her oldest son, Jack, plays football now and her current favorite team is the Chandler Youth Football Cowboys. J
How has Boot Camp Babes impacted Amy’s life? Amy states, “ I don’t even know where to start. There is of course the obvious increase in fitness and the fact that it is now a focus. Because of BCB, fitness is a priority again! Camp is scheduled on my calendar each session, so I have no excuse, and my hubby respects that it is an appointment, just like going to the doctor or getting the car fixed. I’m FITTER than I’ve been probably since college, not just trimmer. My kids see me making fitness a priority and I think that is such a good example to set for them... and last, but definitely not least, I’ve made such good friends through boot camp, and they’ve become so much more than just “workout buddies”. I’m not sure which is the biggest blessing!”

Meet Amy K
Our Highest Ranking Babe
Amy grew up in Gilbert and Alamogordo, New Mexico. Married 19 years this year! She is the proud mom to two girls 5 and 10, who keep her on her toes when away from Camp. She volunteers at their school, San Marcos Elementary, once a week. She participates in the classrooms and educates the little ones about good dental health. She is also walking in the American Diabetes Association’s signature fundraising walk. Please click here to support her!
Amy found out about Boot Camp Babes at a health fair last year. She has been a Babe since our inaugural camp here in Chandler! When we asked her what drills she liked in camp, she stated “Running and lifting weights. I hated weights before camp!”
Amy tries to live be the motto, “treat others as you would like to be treated.” She admits to being a bit of a clean freak and likes things to be in their place. After taking technical computer classes, she finds it funny that she still has zero computer skills... but we can’t agree on that since she does return emails quite rapidly!
Amy says, “ I have loved camp! I for sure am the one that is always loud and huffing and grunting, but I wouldn’t miss it for the world!” She feels stronger and has more endurance than ever and Boot Camp Babes has given her the strength to say
“Well, at least try it... Whatever IT is.”
